Over the past 10 years, the FBI has refocused its energy on the most sophisticated and dangerous threats, leading to an increase in the lengths of average jail sentences for many crimes. - Crimes against children average sentences rose 121% over the decade, to an average of nine years in FY2010; - Gangs/criminal enterprises average sentences rose to over seven and a half years—90.7 months—in the decade; - Computer intrusion average sentences nearly tripled; - Mortgage fraud average sentences increased 65%, to nearly two and a half years in FY2010; and - Corporate fraud average sentences increased 70%, to exceed five years by FY2010.
