  • 1 A victim can be an individual, a business, an institution, or society as a whole.
  • 2 The figures shown in this column are individual victims only.
  • 3 The figures shown in the rape (revised definition) column include only those reported by law enforcement agencies that used the revised Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) definition of rape. See the data declaration for further explanation.
  • 4 The figures shown in the rape (legacy definition) column include only those reported by law enforcement agencies that used the legacy UCR definition of rape. See the data declaration for further explanation.
  • 5 Includes additional offenses collected in the National Incident-Based Reporting System. See Methodology.
  • 6 The term anti-not Hispanic or Latino does not imply the victim was targeted because he/she was not of Hispanic origin, but it refers to other or unspecified ethnic biases that are not Hispanic or Latino.
  • 7 A multiple-bias incident is an incident in which one or more offense types are motivated by two or more biases.
  • Note: The aggregate of adult and juvenile individual victims does not equal the total number of victims because total victims include individuals, businesses, institutions, and society as a whole. In addition, the aggregate of adult and juvenile individual victims does not equal the aggregate of victims of crimes against persons because not all law enforcement agencies report the ages of individual victims.
