- In 2019, law enforcement agencies in U.S. cities reported an average of 2.9 full-time law enforcement employees (including both sworn officers and civilians) per 1,000 inhabitants.
- Law enforcement agencies in cities in the Northeast had a rate of 3.6 full-time law enforcement employees per 1,000 inhabitants.
- The rate of full-time law enforcement employees per 1,000 inhabitants was 3.2 in cities in the South.
- In cities in the Midwest, the rate of full-time law enforcement employees per 1,000 residents was 2.6.
- Law enforcement agencies in cities in the West had a rate of 2.2 full-time law enforcement employees per 1,000 inhabitants.
