Five-Year Arrest Trends, by Sex, 2015–2019

  • In 2019, the number of males arrested decreased 7.6 percent, and the number of females arrested decreased 5.4 percent when compared with arrest figures from 2015.
  • The number of juvenile males (those under age 18) arrested in 2019 dropped 24.0 percent, and the number of arrests of juvenile females fell 21.7 percent when compared with 2015 data.
  • An examination of 5-year trend data indicated that the number of males arrested for violent crimes decreased 0.1 percent, and the number of females arrested for these offenses rose 4.1 percent.
  • The number of males arrested for murder in 2019 rose 5.6 percent when compared with 2015 arrest data, and the number of females arrested for murder in 2019 increased 7.3 percent.
  • Arrests of juveniles for violent crimes decreased for males but increased for females in 2019 when compared with data for 2015. The number of arrests of juvenile males dropped 2.0 percent; the number of arrests of juvenile females rose 0.1 percent.
