Current Year Over Previous Year Arrest Trends, by Sex, 2014–2015

  • Nationwide, the number of males arrested in 2015 decreased 3.7 percent when compared with the number of those arrested in 2014. The number of females arrested decreased 2.9 percent during this 2-year period.
  • The number of juvenile (persons under age 18) males arrested in 2015 decreased 8.8 percent when compared with 2014 juvenile male arrest data. The number of juvenile female arrests decreased 7.3 percent.
  • The 2-year trend showed that the number of males arrested for violent crimes increased 1.5 percent, and the number of females arrested for violent crimes rose 1.8 percent.
  • Arrests of juvenile males for violent crimes declined 3.3 percent; arrests of juvenile females decreased 2.1 percent.
  • Of the violent crimes, the number of male arrests for murder offenses had the largest increase at 7.1 percent for males of all ages and 9.0 percent for juvenile males in a comparison of 2014 and 2015 arrest data. Arrests of females increased in each offense category. Arrests of juvenile females increased the most for robbery, up 5.3 percent, and decreased the most for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, down 16.3 percent.
  • The number of males arrested for property crimes in 2015 decreased 5.5 percent when compared with 2014 arrest data, and the number of females arrested for property crimes decreased 5.7 percent.
  • The number of juvenile males arrested for property crimes decreased 9.2 percent; the number of juvenile females decreased 10.4 percent.
  • A comparison of 2015 and 2014 arrest data for property crime offenses indicated that the only property crime with an increase in the number of arrests was motor vehicle theft. The number of males (all ages) arrested for that offense increased 12.1 percent, and the number of male juveniles arrested for that offense rose 11.1 percent. The number of females (all ages) arrested for motor vehicle theft increased 18.4 percent, and the number of female juveniles arrested for that offense rose 21.0 percent.
