Overview

In 2015, the average dollar value per motor vehicle stolen in the U.S. was $7,001. The average dollar value of property taken during burglaries was $2,316; during robberies, $1,190; and during larceny-thefts, $929.

By location, most burglaries, 71.6 percent, occurred at residences. Most robbery offenses, 39.8 percent, occurred on streets or highways.

In 2015, the number of robbery offenses increased in four of the seven location categories when compared with the 2014 totals. These locations included gas or service stations, convenience stores, commercial locations, and miscellaneous locations. The number of robberies at gas or service stations rose the most, 10.1 percent.
