Five-Year Arrest Trends, by Sex, 2009–2013

  • In 2013, the number of males arrested decreased 16.7 percent, and the number of females arrested decreased 9.7 percent when compared with figures from 2009.
  • The number of juvenile (those under age 18) males arrested in 2013 dropped 38.8 percent, and the number of arrests of juvenile females fell 39.2 percent when compared with the 2009 data.
  • An examination of 5-year trend data indicated that the number of males arrested for violent crimes decreased 15.6 percent, and the number of females arrested for these offenses decreased 8.9 percent.
  • A comparison of arrest data for 2013 with those for 2009 showed the number of males arrested for murder decreased 13.1 percent; for females, the number of arrests decreased 5.5 percent.
  • Arrests of juveniles for violent crimes decreased for both genders in 2013 when compared with data for 2009. The number of arrests of juvenile males dropped 36.2 percent; the number of arrests of juvenile females fell 35.1 percent.
