Five-Year Arrest Trends, Totals, 2008–2012

  • Overall, the number of persons arrested in 2012 decreased 12.3 percent from the number of those arrested in 2008. The number of adults arrested declined 8.6 percent, and the number of juveniles (individuals under age 18) arrested fell 33.7 percent.
  • The number of persons arrested for violent crimes in 2012 declined 12.2 percent when compared with the 2008 number. Arrests of juveniles for violent crimes decreased 36.4 percent for the same comparison period, and arrests of adults decreased 7.5 percent.
  • The number of persons arrested for property crimes in 2012 decreased 2.4 percent when compared with 2008 data. Arrests of adults for property crimes increased 8.2 percent, but arrests of juveniles decreased 32.4 percent.
  • Arrests of persons for forcible rape declined 17.3 percent in 2012 when compared to the 2008 data. Arrests of adults for robbery offenses decreased 12.1 percent, and arrests of juveniles for the same offense declined 39.4 percent for the same years of comparison.
  • Arrests of persons for larceny-theft increased 1.2 percent in 2012 when compared with data for 2008. Arrests of adults for larceny-theft rose 12.1 percent, but arrests of juveniles for this offense decreased 30.4 percent.
  • Arrests of persons for motor vehicle theft in 2012 dropped 28.2 percent when compared with the number of arrests made for this offense in 2008. Arrests of juveniles for motor vehicle theft fell 46.4 percent, and arrests of adults for the same offense decreased 22.0 percent.
